Prep Blog Review: Protect Family and Assets

What would be your biggest fear when disaster strikes, the world as we know it ends and anarchy takes its place? Losing your life, your family and assets, and not being able to protect them? How to prevent this from happening?

Let’s find some answer in three useful articles we found for you stumbling upon prepper blogs and websites.

1. Are Your Kids As Prepared As You Are? How to Put Together a School Emergency Kit for Your Child

childrenedc“As a parent of two small children, my SHTF fears have nothing to do with pandemics, roving hordes of marauders or an EMP taking out my iPhone. My biggest SHTF fear is that “something” could happen while my kids are not with me that could put them into harm’s way. I think a lot of parents in the preparedness community share this same fear.

As preppers we diligently prepare for disasters of all sizes by storing supplies, practicing skills and always being aware of our surroundings so that we can be prepared for any potential threats that may come our way…but is a 5, 10 or 15 year old child capable of understanding practical preparedness?”

2. Hiding Valuables in Your Home

hiding valuables“Looting is a nearly ubiquitous feature of natural and political disasters, and burglary is an everyday risk, especially in metro areas, so protecting your goods is an integral part of your preparedness plan. In this article we’re not talking about hiding things from government agents. Burglars usually have limited time and must operate undetected, which makes it more difficult for them to find your stuff.

Government agents, on the other hand, have unlimited resources, unlimited time, and no liability, so they will simply destroy your home and find everything. Hiding stuff from them requires much more planning, which we will discuss in a future article.”

3. How to Secure Your Rural Homestead on a Budget

deterrent“While living out and away from the hustle and bustle has its definite advantages, it also has some drawbacks that you should consider if you want to maintain the peace and quiet that drew you away from town in the first place.

Although most of the crime reports seem to originate from more populated areas, that doesn’t mean that you should assume it won’t happen to you simply because you live out of the way.”

Everyone will have a different biggest fear based on their perceptions and level of preparedness. My group is well prepared for isolation due to a massive die off or for defending ourselves in an environment where there is no law enforcement and a lot of criminals; individual and in gangs. What I fear is the possibility that FEMA and DHS are in control and our military has become subservient to them. There is simply no defense against a Stryker, a Bradley, an Abrams, an Apache or a drone. Heck, an up-armored HUMVEE with a turreted ma deuce on it would be all but invincible. All of you out there who think you can stand up to the military have never been in the military. Don’t even think about it.

So we do what many do and we cache so not all our eggs are in one basket if they come to confiscate weapons and “horded” food. Caching is a good plan “B”. But what if they keep coming back? You may think you can hide your food but guess what? After a few weeks it will be very obvious who is eating and who isn’t. You can’t hide that. You can’t physically hide either no matter how isolated you are because FLIR equipped aircraft, drones and satellites will locate you with no trouble at all. What if they want our retreat site for their own use and just kick us out? Are my wife and group members really better off running out into the woods than at a FEMA camp? If I can’t keep her physically alive, nothing else matters to me and I have failed. If it were just me then all that bravado about better to die free than live in a camp would apply. But it’s not just me. It’s not just you. We have families that depend on us to make the right decisions and to keep them alive. Seriously; if you eventually found yourself out in the wilderness looking at an emaciated spouse and malnourished children who are shivering in the cold and getting sicker by the day and look like death warmed over, you really only have 2 options open to you other than to watch them die (slowly and painfully I might add). You are armed so you can go steal food from someone else and become one of the criminals. Or you can take them to a FEMA camp and turn yourselves in where you all might be very miserable but alive. A world where FEMA and DHS are in control; this is MY fear.

If the situation becomes as dire as the government rounding up Americans and putting them into FEMA camps as you suggested……. you and your family will probably not survive that scenario intact.
